Institute for Career Development (ICD) is a contractually negotiated benefit available to the workers covered by the union. Classes are customized; set around your specific work schedule, and held at ICD, the hall, or at various locations around town, and/or online. Classes are 100% free for union members.

PERSONALIZED FINANCIAL COACHING or MORTGAGE CONSULT CLASS: 45-60min at Affinity Credit Union, the credit union born inside the plant. Held on weekdays. Financial partners encouraged to attend along with you

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY CLASS: 3hrs online first, then a full weekend of riding at Ankeny DMACC. You provide DOT-stickered and approved helmet and gloves; they provide the bikes. Weekend hours are Fri 5-9pm, Sat 8-4, Sun 8-12

MAKE A BELT CLASS at TANDY LEATHER: 1-2hrs on a weekday or maybe Saturday. Need 5 to make it happen

ONLINE CLASSES at TOOLINGU: maintenance, machining, electrification, and more. You get 90 days to take however many classes you’re able. They’re self-paced, and more intense than you think! Check out their website, learn.toolingu.com, then reach ICD if you wanna give it a go

TUITION ASSISTANCE: is used toward a degree, certificate, or training that’s only available at college level. TA can be put toward CDL training (at DMACC), although their in-person class schedule often clashes with our shifts. You’ll also need to spend $2500ish of your own (for CDL classes)
