Institute for Career Development (ICD) is a contractually negotiated benefit available to the workers covered by the union. Classes are customized; set around your specific work schedule, and held at ICD, the hall, off-site at various locations around town, and/or online. Classes are 100% free to union members.
PERMIT TO CARRY: One-time, 3hr session includes classroom + safety + live fire practice, at Rangemasters in Clive
CPR/AED/1st AID: One-time, 3.5hr session, in-person, at ICD/the hall
DRONE LICENSURE COURSE: All online, 15hr class that helps you pass the FAA Part 107 drone license test so you can fly drones commercially. It’s self-paced and you don’t need a drone to take it. Can use a computer at ICD if you like. Still waiting for the vendor to be added to the pay system and then paid, by corporate, so that we can get access to classes. I’ll keep you in the loop
COMING IN FEB: SAT WELDING at either Ankeny or Southridge DMACC. Starts Sat, Feb 01, 8am-1pm, 6 weeks. Instructors will ‘meet you where you are’ re skill level. Those with zero experience are encouraged to sign up and learn the basics! Get on the list soon – this fills up fast!
*NEW*INTRO TO AI: through DMACC. All online. 45hrs/8weeks/one lesson per week. Explore the foundational concepts and diverse applications of AI. You will engage with topics such as ethics, bias, cultural impacts, regulatory frameworks, and professional standards. Classes are small and quite popular, so they’re running them back-to-back
TUITION ASSISTANCE: ICD offers up to $2500 per student, per calendar year, to a certain number of students each year, depending on that year’s budget. Eligible to apply after 6 months on the job
NEW HOURS for you in the plant: I am aware of the new shifts/hours in the plant starting in Nov. We’ll plan to hold ICD classes on Th if we can, and sometimes Fri/Sat if that works out better for the instructors and you members
