Institute for Career Development (ICD) is a contractually negotiated benefit available to the workers covered by the union. Classes are customized; set around your specific work schedule, and held at ICD, the hall, or at various locations around town, and/or online. Classes are 100% free for union members.

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY CLASS: 3hrs online first, then a full weekend of riding at Ankeny DMACC. You provide DOT-stickered and approved helmet and gloves; they provide the bikes. Weekend hours are Fri 5-9pm, Sat 8-4, and Sun 8-12. Classes run thru October. Move quickly if you want this – the season is coming to an end!

MAKE A BELT CLASS at TANDY LEATHER: One-n-done. 1-2hrs on a weekday or Saturday. Need 5 to make it happen

NEW MAKE A WALLET CLASS at TANDY LEATHER: 2, 2-3hr sessions on a weekday or Saturday. Need 5 to make it happen

NEW MAKE A FISHING ROD CLASS: One-n-done. Likely 8am-4pm on a Saturday, at the hall. Need 5 to make it happen 

RETURNING in APRIL 2027 401k INVESTING CLASS: 4, 3hr sessions, spread over 2 weeks, at the hall. Financial partners encouraged to attend along with you. Need 20 to make it happen. NEED TO PLAN AHEAD ON THIS ONE – if you’re interested, reach out ASAP

SIGN UP NOW for AUTO BODY REPAIR & PAINTING: at DMACC. 6-9pm, T & Th, for 9 weeks, starts the Tuesday immediately following Labor Day

TUITION ASSISTANCE: apply for up to $2500 per calendar year to be used toward a degree, certificate, or training that’s only available at college level. TA can also be put toward CDL training at DMACC. There are many details involved with either, so reach ICD to set up a time to meet and discuss
