Institute for Career Development (ICD) is a contractually negotiated benefit available to the workers covered by the union. Classes are set around your work schedule. They’re held at ICD, the hall, off-site at various locations around town, and/or online. Classes are 100% free
CLASSES AVAILABLE NOW
Permit to Carry: Part I is 3 hours, classroom & safety. Part II is 1 hour of live fire practice. Both take place at Rangemasters in Clive
Home Buying 101: 45-60min session with Affinity Credit Union. Spouses/financial partners eligible to attend with you
Credit Basics/Clean-Up: 45-60min session with Affinity Credit Union. Spouses/financial partners eligible to attend with you
Motorcycle Safety: 4hrs online first, then a full weekend of in-person riding at Ankeny DMACC. Fri 5-9pm, Sat 8-4, Sun 8-12. Must bring/use your own DOT stickered and approved gloves and helmet. They’ll provide the bikes and instruction
CPR/AED: 1-time, 3.5hr session at hall/ICD. Need 6 or more to make it happen. Spouses, maybe over-18 kids allowed – they’ll have to pay their way ($75ish)
Drones: Part 107 Commercial Drone License Prep Class: 15hrs, all online, self-paced. 30 days to complete. Don’t need drone to take class

CLASSES AVAILABLE COME FALL
Computers: Computer Basics/Intro to Computers, Microsoft Overview for Beginners or Intermediate Level, Excel I and II, Word, and Power Point I and II. Available in-person at ICD this fall, or remotely right now. Would be great to have a small group (vs only 1 student), if holding in-person
M-A-Y-B-E 401k/Investing: dates are tentatively set for Sept 16-27. Would help greatly to know if you want it! Class is now SHORTENED TO 2 WEEKS THIS YEAR! NOT 3! All who attended in 2023 are eligible to attend again, in part or in whole, if you’d like a refresher. NEED 20 NEW STUDENTS TO MAKE IT HAPPEN
TUITION ASSISTANCE
ICD offers up to $2500 per student, per calendar year, to a certain number of students each year. Must work 6 months before eligible to apply. Study is not limited to business or manufacturing
Yes, you can use up to $2500 ICD TA toward CDL training at DMACC. However, they still do not have evening instructors, so only full-time day classes are available (M-F, 8-4ish for 3 wks)
