Institute for Career Development (ICD) is a contractually negotiated benefit available to the workers covered by the union. Classes are customized; set around your specific work schedule, and held at ICD, the hall, or at various locations around town, and/or online. Classes are 100% free for union members.
MOTORCYCLE SAFETY: the season’s almost over! 3hrs online first. Can use an ICD computer or personal mobile device. Then a weekend in-person at Ankeny DMACC; Fri 5-9pm, Sat 8am-4pm, and Sun 8am-12pm. You provide a DOT stickered-and-approved helmet and gloves; they provide the bikes
WHO WANTS SATURDAY FALL WELDING? We need solid interest to make it happen. Can take this class up to 3 times; newbies also welcome. Likely 8-9am – 1pm-ish x 6 weeks. Will be at Ank and/or SR DMACC. ICD provides the gear
PERSONALIZED FINANCIAL COACHING: 45-60 minute session at Affinity Credit Union, the credit union born inside the plant. Bring your spouse/financial partner if you wish
TUITION ASSISTANCE:Up to $2500 a calendar year, per steelworker.This is for ACTIVE STEELWORKERS ONLY, not family members. Finish your degree, start one, maybe earn a certificate? TA c-a-n be used for CDL although the in-person class hours don’t often correspond well with your work shifts. Also, you’ll need to spend $2500 of your own. (class costs almost $5k)
ICD HOURS: M-Th, 6am-4pm. Call/text re hours on weeks you’re out of the plant. ICD hours might be different, too
