Institute for Career Development (ICD) is a contractually negotiated benefit available to the workers covered by the union. Classes are customized; set around your specific work schedule, and held at ICD, the hall, or at various locations around town, and/or online. Classes are 100% free for union members.

 

PERSONALIZED FINANCIAL COACHING: 45-60 minute session at Affinity Credit Union, the credit union born inside the plant. Financial partners eligible attend along with you

JANUARY SATURDAY WELDING is fullWill likely be 8am – 1pm-ish x 6 weeks. Will be at Ankeny and/or SouthRidge DMACC. ICD provides the gear

 

TUITION ASSISTANCE: will look different in 2026. We’re working on that, and all aspects of the budget to see where we can save and still offer a quality program. TA is available only to active steelworkers, not family members. TA can be used for CDL although the in-person class hours don’t often correspond well with your work shifts. You’ll also need to spend at least $2500 of your own. (class costs approx. $5k)

ICD HOURS: M-Th, 6am-4pm. Call/text re hours on weeks you’re out of the plant. ICD hours might be different, too
