Institute for Career Development (ICD) is a contractually negotiated benefit available to the workers covered by the union. Classes are customized; set around your specific work schedule, and held at ICD, the hall, or at various locations around town, and/or online. Classes are 100% free for union members.

 

CPR/AED/1st AID: One-time, 3.5hr session, in-person, at ICD/the hall

DRONES: All online, 15hr class that helps you pass the FAA Part 107 drone license test so you can fly drones commercially. It’s self-paced and you don’t need a drone to take it. Use a computer at ICD or take it on any personal device

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY: 3hrs online first. Can use an ICD computer or personal mobile device. Then a weekend in-person at Ankeny DMACC; Fri 5-9pm, Sat 8am-4pm, and Sun 8am-12pm. You provide a DOT stickered-and-approved helmet and gloves; they provide the bikes

SATURDAY *FALL* WELDING at DMACC: Reach ICD to get on an Interest List if you want in the FALL SATURDAY WELDING CLASS. They fill up very quickly – usually 6 Saturdays, 8am-1pm, at either Ankeny and/or Southridge DMACC

*NEW* PERSONALIZED FINANCIAL COACHING CLASS: 45-60 minute session at Affinity Credit Union the credit union born inside the plant. Bring your spouse/financial partner if you wish

TUITION ASSISTANCE: ICD offers up to $2500 per student, per calendar year, to a certain number of students each year, depending on that year’s budget. As to what’s “out there” to learn, these certificates are some of several currently available thru DMACC

TUITION ASSISTANCE: can be used for CDL although the in-person class hours don’t often gel with your work shifts

  • First, you’ll take 15hrs of CDL Theory online. You have up to 30 days to complete this part. Only when ICD has your Certificate of Completion, can we schedule you for the in-person Behind The Wheel. You pay for this; approx. $140 
  • The in-person (BTW) daytime classes are currently M-Th, 7:30am-4:30pm, and 7:30am-12pm on Friday, for 3 weeks. Night sessions are M-Th, 5-10pm for 6 weeks. This is when the ICD $2500 TA kicks in
  • The overall cost is approx $4760. ICD TA maxes out at $2500
